Best Programming Language

we can programming in v.b but i want to know is this a programming language.

What is the programming language in Visual Studio 2008???

I mean i see sample programs that are written with C++ but also Visual Basic programs. What is the language that visual studio uses??? Both???? Can be the half code of a program written in C and the other half in Visual Basic?????

I am thinking of taking this class in my school, so basically I want to know if visual basic.net is a good language to know, as in, is it common to use it when writing programs, games etc, does it have many areas of application, or is it considered obsolete by most programmers?

Any insight on the subject is welcome.
